چکیده

A review of cellular automata (CA) theory is provided, with a discussion of its application in environmental modeling and simulation. CA theory shows potential for modeling landscape dynamics, so it is used to underpin a demonstration Geographic Information System (GIS) called SAGE. The grid-based GIS system is specified within the CA framework. The system is then demonstrated using an abstract simulation of vole population dynamics. A discussion of the implications of cellular automata theory on spatial analysis is provided, with directions for future

Simulation and Evaluation of Urban Development Scenarios Using Integration of Cellular Automata Model and Game Theory

Urban growth is a dynamic and evolutionary spatial and social process that relates to the changes of urban spatial units and the transformation of people’s lifestyles and consequently demographic changes. Considering the urban development process as a function of land uses interactions, population structure and the strategic behavior of the agents involved in the urban development process (the ...

Integration of Cellular Automata and Gis for Simulating Land Use Changes

Cellular automata have been used as a simulation technique in the study of an impressively wide range of urban phenomena, including regional growth, urban sprawl, gentrification, residential growth, population dynamics, economic activity and employment, historical urbanization, land use evolution, and polycentricity to name but a few. A spatial model consists of a collection of processes perfor...

Self-organized criticality in spatial evolutionary game theory.

Self-organized criticality is an important framework for understanding the emergence of scale-free natural phenomena. Cellular automata provide simple interesting models in which to study self-organized criticality. We consider the dynamics of a new class of cellular automata which are constructed as natural spatial extensions of evolutionary game theory. This construction yields a discrete one...

Modeling Population Dynamics with Cellular Automata

When predicting changes in plant populations, spatial interactions must be considered. Cellular automata are models incorporating both spatial and temporal dynamics. Vegetation data were sampled on a meadow over three years using the point-quadrat method and population dynamics of three single species were modeled with a cellular automaton using stochastic decision rules. Links with the theory ...

Subcritical behavior in the alternating supercritical Domany-Kinzel dynamics

Cellular automata are widely used to model real-world dynamics. We show using the DomanyKinzel probabilistic cellular automata that alternating two supercritical dynamics can result in subcritical dynamics in which the population dies out. The analysis of the original and reduced models reveals generality of this paradoxical behavior, which suggests that autonomous or man-made periodic or rando...
